The Opportunity - Go to the contest here. On November 17th, 2009, Beatport will make available for download the stems of ‘Bostich’ the band’s break through classic and a favorite of many Yello fans, and ‘Oh Yeah’, the band’s biggest commercial hit to date. ‘Oh Yeah’ was featured in Hollywood movies like ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’, ‘Beverly Hills Cop’, ‘The Secret Of My Success’ and several others.
“The world of electronic music would not be what it is today without a few visionary pioneers like Yello. This band helped create a new sound, entirely based on synthesizers and samplers”stated Ronny Krieger, Beatport’s Chief Programming Officer. This is an amazing opportunity for all aspiring producers to join the likes of Carl Cox, The Orb, and Moby by putting their own spin on Yello’s classic electronic tracks.
Media scarcity is dead. In the future my son will have a flash drive that he will pay $29 for that will have the capacity to hold all movies and music ever released by a major label, studio or tv/cable network. It will take 30 seconds to clone the data over the network to a friend who will pay $14.99 for a device with double capacity a year later. How does the media industry survive such a coming disruption?Continue reading ...
Everything about reading on the Web is designed to shorten your attention span. Every link promises that whatever you’re currently reading isn’t nearly as interesting as the thing behind the link.
In various occasions, I've discussed a bit about the power of accessories and their ability to influence our perceptions... A while ago, I did a study on Ikea's home furnishing system and was fascinated by its efficiency and structure that were made for the perfect "mix and match", which, in many ways, were very much within the same concept as fashion wardrobe remix. Based on that study, I came up a group of designs, in which the essential and basic pieces were designed first, followed by versatile accessories designs structured in such way that would work seamlessly with the basics, thus translate the simple everyday pieces into the more dramatic ensembles. "A fascinating book. . . . [Mayer-Schönberger] argues that technology has inverted our millennia-old relationship with memory. . . . So what's the solution? Mayer-Schönberger argues that we need to stop creating tools that automatically remember everything. Instead, we need to design them to forget."--Clive Thompson, WIRED Magazine
One of the most important and innovative artists in contemporary China, Zhang Huan (b.1965) brought the burgeoning Chinese art scene to international attention in the 1990s with a series of taboo-breaking performances. His artwork continues to explore the tragedies of the human condition and the spiritual essence of Buddhism in a range of media that includes photography, painting and monumental sculpture. Zhang’s work has been exhibited in the world’s most prestigious museums and international exhibitions, including the 1999 Venice Biennale, the 2001 Yokohama Triennial and the 2002 Whitney Biennial. This monograph is the first complete analysis of the artist’s entire career, from his beginnings in the communal art scene of Beijing’s East Village to his breakthrough in New York and his return to Shanghai, where he now runs a studio with over 40 assistants.

A 40-watt McIntosh MC240 stereo amplifier, which sold for $288 when introduced in 1960, could cost as much as $3,500 today. After in 1946 Fortune magazine feature devoted 11 pages to a fledgling phenomenon called high fidelity, many music lovers were quick to purchase equipment made by Fisher, a little-known firm whose products were ranked “best … in price and performance.” Since most of the era’s prominent makers of radios and phonographs ignored distortion and neglected difficultto-capture treble frequencies and solid bass tones, their small, quality-conscious competitor prospered, so much so that its owner, Avery Fisher, later gave New York City’s Lincoln Center enough money to have a concert hall named for him.
